Research

Dr. Hao Lou began his undergraduate studies at Zhejiang University, China, and later transferred to Purdue University to pursue a B.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences. Since then, he has chosen pharmaceutics as his scientific career. Over the years, he found pharmaceutical research fascinating, as it provided him with an unparalleled opportunity to synergize different disciplines and focus on both fundamental sciences and practical applications.

With a multidisciplinary background in pharmaceutical science and computational modeling/simulation, he has gained academic and industrial experiences in formulation/preformulation development for synthetic molecules and biologics. His industrial work has equipped him with experience in process development, GMP manufacturing, and scale-up for clinical drug products. His research focuses on applying computational methods such as machine learning, molecular dynamics simulation, and multiscale modeling to accelerate drug formulation design (mainly focused on subcutaneous and oral formulations) and provide insights into drug fate within in-vitro and in-vivo systems.

Other research interests include the development of in-vitro systems to emulate in-vivo environments with the aid of additive manufacturing and in-vitro in-vivo correlation (IVIVC) models.
